Dzalanyama Forest Lodge by Land & Lake Safaris, located within the Dzalanyama Forest Reserve has been back open to the public after extensive renovations for over four months. Now completely solar powered, the old colonial timber house has a whole new look.

Solar Panels have been erected to allow ample under-shade parking and the lodge gardens have been landscaped into pockets of colourful flowers and bright green grass. The Dzalanyama House kitchen has been extended into the old dining room and the patio has been extended to allow year-round outdoor dining. The team have also added a courtyard to the side of the house with more chairs and tables to allow more than one group at a time to enjoy private dining spaces outdoors. Not only this but the courtyard comes complete with its own little herb garden.

With a new lick of paint, bedding, pictures and cushions, a new, large gas stove and oven replacing the old Welcome Dover Wood-fired Stove and a whole lot more new trimmings, this special corner of Malawi just got a little more fancy!

The old Dover stove, braai and bread oven have been added to the patio to allow guests even more catering options outdoors and even the campsite has been levelled and updated.

Guests can now enjoy a range of activities around the forest, with remote shelters nestled in the woods to provide maximum privacy and seclusion, a whole range of hiking, walking and cycling trails mapped out and cut and the river being the perfect place to swim – It’s an ideal family, couple or solo escape!

Dzalanyama’s little Lodge now sleeps a maximum of 14 people – one family chalet, one double room, two twin chalets, two twin rooms and one guide room.

The campsite sleeps a maximum of 12 people and has hot water showers, eco toilets, a braai stand, three fire pits and picnic benches to set up your on-the-road home.

Keen on the remote shelters? The remote shelters have a thatched shelter roof and an eco-toilet – both situated on the edge of a river with free-flowing water!

As one of the best areas in Malawi for Miombo Birding, this forest reserve sprawls across three districts and sits between Malawi and Mozambique.

Olive-headed Weaver, Miombo Pied Barbet, Boulder Chat, White-tailed Flycatcher, Black-eared Seedeater and Stierlings Woodpecker are just some of the few favoured feathered species found across this expansive forest.

Land & Lake’s growing projects in the area make your stay a guilt-free eco indulgence, and if you’d like to add a conservation project to your trips, they’ve got a great selection. How about teaching in one of our two schools they support? Or getting your hands dirty with helping the team build new school blocks? Bamboo planting in the community bamboo project or maybe on your forest meanders you can collect seed pods from indigenous tree species to help with the reforestation project start-up? There’s something for every guest to get involved in.

Collect your trails book at the lodge or in the Land & Lake Offices, hire a bike, camping equipment or maybe even a specialised birding guide for your stay!

It’s time for a walk in the woods.
